Kirsten & Rob {Engagement} Steveston

wedding

I was really looking forward to my session with Kirsten and Rob … and they did not disappoint. There were a whole bunch of reasons these two were so high on my list, but I will get to the point….

1. Kirsten called me a and said,”AHHHH! We knew we wanted you to be our wedding photographer for over a year now and then you went and moved to Ottawa when we got engaged! Can we fly you back for the wedding?” Amazing who doesn’t love this kind of flattery…. honestly I’m a sucker for it. But she didn’t stop there. “Did you know that you are the only photographer, at least the only one I could find, in all of Canada, that speaks sign language?” this brings me to the second reason reason I was so excited for their session.

2. Rob is deaf, and speaks sign language. As you may or may not know about me, one of my favourite cousins is deaf and I learned sign language before I learned to speak. Both my cousin and I are only children and he lived with our family for quite awhile when I was a kid. I often think of him as more brother than cousin. So being able to communicate with Rob would be cool, AND being able to take photos where Rob and Kirsten are actually ‘talking’ in the images was a whole new and VERY cool experience!

3. These two have a great story! They are just one of those couples that you are happy have found each-other ( I meet those a lot, and I love it when I do). Kirsten is a nurse, and has a 12 year old daughter. Rob is a postal worker. When they were dating because of Rob’s really early am shifts and Kirsten’s overnight shifts often the only time of day they would see each other was literally passing in the night. They would meet at a specific sky-train stop and ride the train together, Kirsten going home after an all nighter and Rob going into work. Which is why we did engagement photos on the sky train! Amazing and absolutely a first for me 🙂

These two were constantly play-fighting (it was my first purple-nurple in an engagement session), laughing, and generally being themselves and having a great time, and I had a great time with them! I hope you enjoy our Steveston / Sky-train lovefest 🙂

That’s a great story. I have truly never seen the Skytrain look so romantic!
